Nellie is a licensed speech language pathologist focused on using cognition and communication strategies to help others harness their higher-order thinking skills. She is involved in both conducting research at the Center for BrainHealth and translating clinical care at the Brain Performance Institute. As a researcher, Nellie has conducted studies examining the efficacy of Strategic Memory Advanced Reasoning Training (SMART) for adult veterans and civilians who have sustained a brain injury. Nellie helps promote evidence-based strategic learning across the lifespan by training professionals, athletes, and the warrior community to enhance the way they use their brain in order to maximize efficiency and build cognitive reserves for the future. With a particular interest in the developing brain, she continues to conduct pediatric brain injury research programs and oversees collegiate training initiatives.
