Center for BrainHealth Programs
UT Dallas Center for BrainHealth is a key component in the Center for Advanced ADHD Research, Training and Education (CAARTE), along with The Shelton School and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
The Center for BrainHealth is involved in Research and Clinical Treatment, including:
- Providing strategic learning assessments;
- Using imaging to detect differences in brain function of children with ADHD;
- Intervening with Strategic Memory and Reasoning Training (SMART);
- Intervening with virtual computerized social learning.
About ADHD
There are three different subtypes of ADHD: inatttentive, hyperactive, and combined (inatttentive and hyperactive).
Symptoms of ADHD can include trouble:
- focusing and sustaining attention on particular tasks (such as homework)
- organizing and planning
- regulating emotions
- using short-term memory
- self-monitoring one’s own performance

Treatment
ADHD may be diagnosed by pediatricians, neurologists, and psychiatrists. The typical course of treatment involves medication. Difficulties such as language, learning, and social skills that commonly occur with ADHD may be diagnosed by neuro psychologists, psychologists, and/or speech-language pathologists.
